Bridge over the 'Noord'

Bridge over the 'Noord'

As the only bridge crossing over the river Noord, the ‘Alblasserdam bridge’, with a total span of 295 meters, is an important link in the region of Rotterdam/Dordrecht. The bridge was built in 1927 as a part of the national road plan. In November 1939 the bridge was opened for traffic. The steel arch bridge was not blown up during the Second World War because it was missing on the German staff cards.

The bridge was provided with a new paint system by Hegeman Bouw Chemie, commissioned by Rijkswaterstaat. During this maintenance the bridge was coated with SteelKote coating, so that the construction will be resistant to extreme weather conditions and 25-year intervals for major maintenance are possible.

Hegeman Bouw Chemie, as part of Hegeman Bouw Partners, is socially involved and future-oriented. They work with responsible materials, which makes SteelKote coatings a perfect match. This coating ensures a reduced environmental impact.
